PostHeaderIcon Manicures ? Why We Love Them So Much

Getting a manicure is just about one of the best things that a woman (or man!) can receive. Not only is it an opportunity to improve your looks, but it’s also a chance to escape from the realities of the world and step into a state of relaxation. While the ultimate goal of the manicure is to improve the looks of the nails, it’s also become common practice to incorporate massage and various relaxation techniques while getting your nails done.

Most manicures done at salons are performed by technicians who are also trained in the art of massage. While they are usually not licensed therapists, they have acquired the skills to apply just the right pressure to the hands and feet that leave us in a total state of bliss. It’s also very typical of nail salons to have their clients sit in a relaxing massage chair while having their nails and feet worked on. These chairs provide a deep back massage at just the push of a button, adding the finishing touches on a perfect spa experience. (Getting a manicure is a cheaper and often more convenient experience than a massage at a full-service spa.)

Another great aspect of receiving a manicure is the ?heat therapy?. Applying gentle heat to the body is known to have a calming and relaxing effect, so many nail technicians will place your hands in warming mitts to help soften the skin as well as relax the muscles in the hands. Many people also opt to receive a pedicure along with their manicure. These are also quite a relaxing experience, as the feet are placed into a warm and bubbling footbath and followed by a complete foot and leg massage.

However, as wonderful as receiving a manicure at a salon can be, the reality still exists that not everyone can afford to have these luxurious treatments ? or perhaps they simply don’t have the time. While it’s hard to duplicate the total experience available at nail salons, an equally satisfying manicure can be done at home. Here are a few tips on giving a great manicure at home.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

1. Have the right tools available. For example, you will need a nail file, clippers, a cuticle stick, nail scissors, and if applicable, bottles of nail polish. You may also want to have items such as cuticle softener, lotion, warming mitts, paraffin wax machine, and a footbath. (If you don’t have a footbath, a tub filled with warm water works just as great!)

2. Carefully go through your nails with a cuticle stick and scissors, gently removing any hangnails or outgrown cuticles. Then file and clip your nails to the desired length and shape.

3. If you’re going to provide a massage, do it before you paint the nails. Use your thumbs to apply gentle pressure to the palms of the hands and rub in a circular motion. Follow up massaging each individual finger while working your way outward.

4. Be sure to rinse off any massage lotion using a wet washcloth before applying polish. Coat the nails twice, followed by a clear top coat.

PostHeaderIcon What to do when there is horse colic

Unlike with human babies, colic in horses can become really serious. In fact, it is considered as an emergency because of the potential damage that it can do to the horses. Even when treated immediately, only some will respond to treatment and medication. The condition of most will only deteriorate.

Colic in horses, like in humans, is pinpointed to a problem in the digestive system. Horses will feel pain in their abdomen, which can cause them to act wild. Horses who are suffering from colic will also cry and shout. They will also prance and buck wherever they are. This may cause injuries to themselves and also to the people who go near them.

There are several types of colic in horses. One is a colic caused by a problem with gas. This is called spasmodic colic. Another type is caused by obstructions in some parts of the body, particularly in the colon or in the intestines, where the structure is a lot narrower compared to other species. Often, impactions like this in different parts of their bodies will require treatment, from something as simple as oil and medication to fluid therapy, depending on the severity of the problem. Other types that horse lovers and owners should watch out for are colics brought on by overeating and those caused by worms.

Signs of colic in horses

There are many signs of colic in horses, primary of this is the apparent restlessness and abrupt loss of appetite. Like babies, they will also be grouchy and fitful. Appetite is one of the most important things that horse owners should observe as this can be frequently overlooked. Another possible sign of colic is that the horse will become restless at one time and listless the other time. They will unusually be lacking in energy and will be lying down for a period of time. Other times, they will be at their most active.

Sometimes the most important aspects of a subject are not immediately obvious. Keep reading to get the complete picture.

This is when the colic is already in its advanced form and the horse can no longer bear the pain. They will tart to paw, prance, and kick the belly. They will be looking at their sides often, and rolling their upper lip. Some will also be jerking their tails, stretching their legs and going from one place to another, unable to rest.

In severe instances, they can get so wild that they will throw themselves down and assume positions that are so unnatural. They will groan and roll and paw.
Although sometimes, horses can be mighty moody sometimes, all these happening at the same period of time, recurring more than twice should already sound the alarm bells especially if the behavior is so unlike your horse’s temperament.

What to do

The first thing that you should do if you suspect colic in your horse is to not panic. This advice can be hard to take in when your horse is tearing the barn down with their wild behavior. But panic will not accomplish anything. You need a clear mind to deal with the problem. Besides, the feelings of panic will only be picked up by your horse, thereby exacerbating their own worries and fears.

The next thing that you should do is to call the veterinarian. Ask for assistance and do not attempt to solve it by yourself or to wait until the condition improves. Remember that colic is a serious matter and should be treated as soon as possible.

PostHeaderIcon Being Part Of A Postcard Club

With postcard collecting there is usually not a lot of socializing going on since this is normally a hobby you do alone. Although you can come into contact with other collectors at fairs it is often difficult to get much further than just saying hello and it takes a while for faces to become familiar. After all everyone is looking for that special card for their collection and chatting can waste valuable hunting time!

This can mean that collecting postcards is a rather solitary hobby and although it gets you out of the house it doesn’t make you many friends. However this need not be the case. Many areas have their own postcard club and this offers you an ideal opportunity to not only learn more about the hobby but also to make some new friends.

I know the idea of going somewhere for the first time can be rather daunting, especially if you think everyone knows everyone else, and this is why choosing a meeting close to a holiday is a good idea. Generally the holiday meetings of any club will have some kind of festive theme even if it’s only store bought cookies in the interval. If there is not a club in your area consider starting one. You could advertise it in your church bulletin or local paper and you just might be surprised to find out how many share your love for postcards.

Knowledge can give you a real advantage. To make sure you’re fully informed about Post Card, keep reading.

Most club meetings will have one or two dealers whose stock you can look through at a far more leisurely pace than at a fair, where there are so many stalls to get round in a very limited time. Teas and coffees are also on offer and this allows plenty of time for a chat, this could mean the chance of meeting someone who shares your collecting interest and maybe the possibility of sharing information or even swapping cards.

The main event of the evening is generally a talk on a postcard related theme that is illustrated with cards from the speakers own card collection. Some clubs have other events such as auctions, short talks given by members, quiz nights and outings. They usually produce a newsletter that will be posted to you in advance of the next meeting letting you know about the forthcoming talk and which dealers have agreed to come. It is useful to remember that most collectors are as isolated in their collecting as you are and would also benefit from making new contacts. Most clubs welcome new members so take a deep breath and go and have some fun!

Remember you all have something in common postcard collecting!

There’s a lot to understand about Post Card. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

PostHeaderIcon What You Need to Apply for a Venture Capital

Many of us know that we need money to invest in a business. Most of us also know that we have the option to seek for outside investors or venture capitalists. The problem is each one of us has an idea and would like to turn into reality.

But for someone who is not well versed in the streets of business we don’t know how to go about it. When you are applying for a venture capital fund or grant you need a comprehensive business plan.

Applying and convincing investors are no easy feat. They are going invest money in your business so it’s natural that they want to be sure that it will profit them in the long run. Screening can be very tough and competitive. Venture capitalists can reject you because of a million things, and don’t be surprised that some of them may even be trivial.

What you need along with an application

There are five documents that you need to present to the investors along with your application form. These documents will serve as a representation and summary of your company. Your sales pitch may play a role in your overall presentation but the gift of gab is not enough. Investors want to see that you are worth their time and money in print.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

First is the executive summary. It contains your business’ investment opportunity. It’s just one page and available for the public. It is made in a way that anyone can read and understand it.

The second is the Investor ready business plan. This is different from the bank ready business plan because it contains the marketing strategy of your business for the investors. This will show the movement of the company along with the investor’s funds and positive returns. In this document investors only want to know two things: how will they earn back their money and their mitigation risk. This document is used to sell your company and presents to the investors your company’s worth.

The pitch: the presentation of your business with charts. This usually takes about 8-10 minutes and 12-15 charts. This is quite the same with a sales pitch.

The fourth document that you are going to need is the Private Placement Memorandum. This document is used to protect the interest of both the investor and your business. If you don’t have this legal document, the investors can sue your business for a refund if you do not produce the results you stated. Investors only read this document if they have decided to invest in your business.

The fifth and the most important document is the operating plan. This is the blue print of your company that serves as the integral part of the business plan. It contains a comprehensive overview of your company. The operating plan contains the organizational charts, production and marketing strategy.

Investors want to know that you have a structured plan as your company grows. It also tells your team what is expected of them as the company progresses. It also contains the changes in your strategy in a competitive market.

Screening of emerging businesses by investors will be quick. In normal circumstances, private equity firms reject a large percent of applicants. In most cases they are only required to approve certain of number of applicants. Make sure that you have a good business plan to back you up and little gift of gab to convince your investors.

PostHeaderIcon Amber Manicure Heater

For a basic manicure you need some basic supplies like, an emery board or nail file, tweezers, an orange stick, nail polish remover, and last but not least the nail polish itself.

These all seem simple and basic enough, but if you are giving a spa manicure, the whole simplicity thing is out the window.

A spa manicure is not entirely different from a regular manicure in that you will still receive all of the basic cleaning, massaging, shaping and painting, but you will also receive a paraffin wax in addition to the basics. It’s awesome. A spa manicure really is the total luxury in pampering. Because of the wax, you will need a couple more products than are necessary to give a basic manicure. The products are a little pricier, but most clients will be willing to pay the difference in order to experience this extra pampering. If they are not willing to pay the difference every time they get a manicure, it’s guaranteed that this can be used as an enticing bonus for special occasions.

The wax must be melted in order to apply to the client’s hands. The most commonly used heater is the Amber manicure heater. It comes with refill cups for ease of cleaning and additional cups may be purchased separately. There is no need to clean the sticky mess, simply throw the plastic cup away and wipe the surface clean. We all know what a mess wax can make when it dries and hardens.

If you find yourself confused by what you’ve read to this point, don’t despair. Everything should be crystal clear by the time you finish.

Once the wax is heated and melted the clients hand is dipped into the wax and then it is spread evenly onto the entire hand. Then a plastic cover is inserted over the hand. This protects the terry cloth mitts that are then put on top of the plastic cover. The next step for you and the client is to wait. Sometimes this quiet relaxation and waiting is the best part of the spa manicure. Once the wax has hardened, it is time to continue with the manicure.

At this point continue with the manicure as you ordinarily would. You can skip the first step of soaking the hands since the wax will have already softened the cuticles. The nails may also be a little softer due to the intense moisture that the wax provides. They should strengthen once they are polished. The wax will leave the hands feeling soft and smooth for days.

Incidentally, you can you the Amber manicure heater to heat wax for a spa pedicure as well. Amber also makes special booties that go on top of the client’s feet during the spa pedicure. They have thought of everything. These little extras like the booties and the disposable wax cups really help to make clean up a lot easier.

Sometimes our feet get so rough and dry that the wax is really the best way to make them smooth again, so a spa pedicure can be just the medicine. I think that you will be pleased with the results.

Hopefully the sections above have contributed to your understanding of Manicures. Share your new understanding about Manicures with others. They’ll thank you for it.

PostHeaderIcon Manicure Procedure

People have been getting manicures for hundreds of years. The word is derived from the Latin word for hand and the Latin word for care, which basically means that a manicure is caring for ones hands. That sounds simple enough right?

Back in the early days of manicures only the very wealthy and pampered celebrities bothered getting a manicure. The process was expensive and time consuming. And it was basically a waste of time for the common laborer. Why bother to get your hands manicured it you were going to be picking cotton the next day?

Well today things are very different. Lots of people get manicures. Men and women included. If they don’t get regular manicures, then they certainly get them for special occasions like weddings, prom, special dates, etc.

Is everything making sense so far? If not, I’m sure that with just a little more reading, all the facts will fall into place.

There are also many different types of manicures. There is the spa manicure in which your hands are dipped in hot wax and the wax is allowed to harden. There is a basic manicure, a French manicure, and an at home manicure. Not only do the manicures themselves have different types, but the places that perform manicures may differ greatly as well.

Some fancy salons may charge as much as forty dollars for a basic manicure. Cruise ships and resorts are notorious for have exorbitant rates for manicures. Then on the other end of the spectrum, there are inexpensive nail salons that can cost as little as eight or ten dollars. This is surprising to me because the manicure procedure is basically the same at just about every place that I have ever had a manicure (trust me it’s a lot of different places).

Basically, the procedure is this. I come into the salon, sometimes I’m offered a glass of wine, (this usually doesn’t happen at the ten dollar place) then I soak my hands in some sort of concoction. I am told that it is a nail cleanser, but for all I know it could be dish washing liquid. Then after my fingers have pruned, they start poking and prodding my cuticles. This is my least favorite part of a manicure. Can’t they just put the polish on already? Anyway, next they cut my nails evenly and shape them. Lastly the polish is applied. Then I am ushered to another table. Sometimes, they will put me in a spot that has a drier for me to put my hands under. Other times I am left alone to let me nails dry naturally.

Basically it’s the same thing regardless if I am paying thirty dollars or eight dollars. I do have to say however, that a spa manicure is worth the splurge every once in a while. The wax really is refreshing and it rejuvenates my rough and tired hands. The spa manicure procedure really does leave my hands feeling smooth for a few days after I get one. But then in a week, my hands are rough and cracked again. Maybe that is their way of telling me it’s time for another manicure.

Now you can understand why there’s a growing interest in Manicures. When people start looking for more information about Manicures, you’ll be in a position to meet their needs.

PostHeaderIcon Living Wills: Putting Your Refusal Into Writing

The current medical advances have made it possible for health care providers to artificially prolong life. To some people, the notion of hooking their loved ones to a life support system may be not be agreeable especially if there is no definite chance of recovery from the debilitating condition.

However, a lot of folks strongly believe in the inviolability of life. And unless the patient himself or herself wills the termination of life-prolonging measures, no one has the right to pull the plug. Then again, the only way that this would happen is through the use of living wills.

You may not initially welcome the concept of living wills. But as you try to weigh the pros and cons, you will begin to realize that it is not a bad idea after all. A great deal of planning and preparation is your best option if you want your hospital care to turn out the way you want to ? even if it involves pulling the plug for all forms of artificial life support. In addition, putting your wishes into writing is the right path to take in this particular situation.

Possible Reasons For Refusal of Treatment

There may be a million of different reasons why people would want to refuse medical treatment. Then again, most of these rationales may be placed under two broad categories. The first one basically involves the overall benefit of the medical intervention. If the advantage of a particular medication or procedure is not huge enough to substantiate the associated discomfort and risk, then the patient may decide not to receive such measures.

So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Living Wills. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.

Even though most folks would be willing to undergo a number of risky and unpleasant treatments in order to live longer, this statistics should not be viewed as the basis for the medical care of all patients ? particularly those that do not have living wills. Some people actually prefer a shorter and more comfortable life, especially if the quality is significantly compromised.

The second probable reason for the refusal of medical treatment would be the existence of intolerable circumstances. In spite of the simplicity and tolerability of a particular life-sustaining intervention ? such as a nasogastric tube (NGT) feeding, some may say no to it in the presence of an irreversible condition like a persistent vegetative state.

When viewed in this light, the life-prolonging measures may be met with completely atypical decisions. The treatment would then be perceived to lengthen the period of suffering, for both the patient and immediate family.

Even though some decisions fall effortlessly under one of the two broad categories, others just would not fit below any. Based on the circumstances present, the term “medical treatment” may involve the use of ventilation tubes (inserted into the chest or neck), the administration of antibiotics or any drug with a high probability of success. Benefit/burden decision-making in these situations could bring about different choices.

If you want certain treatments to be withheld when you’re no longer able to decide for yourself, you should specify them in your living will. Numerous health care declarations or living wills contain instructions intended for doctors to deny the provision of “life-sustaining treatments” or “extraordinary care”.

These directives are often difficult to interpret correctly and are less likely to be followed than those that are more detailed.

PostHeaderIcon How planning can help you conquer procrastination

Benjamin Franklin, who knew how to conquer procrastination as well as anyone, said that “by failing to prepare you are preparing to fail.” How do you plan your work? And if you don’t plan, how do you know if you’re reaching your goals? It’s time to find out.

Make a list of everything you’ve been putting off at work. Not just the big things, but all the little things, too. Make another list of everything you’ve been putting off at home-large tasks and small ones. If you can’t think of anything right away, walk around the house. Walk through the yard. It won’t be hard to fill a page with projects that have been talked about, but not carried out.

Make another list of things you’ve neglected to do in the area of your personal relationships. That includes letters, emails, phone calls, visits, family trips, and vacations. Then make a list of all the things you’ve put off doing for yourself-a class you want to take, an exercise program you know you should start, or a bad habit you know you should eliminate.

You can see that there’s practical value in learning more about Procrastination. Can you think of ways to apply what’s been covered so far?

Don’t worry about priorities. Just get the juices flowing and write down everything that comes into your head. It may be hard to get started, but once you start the ideas will come more easily. Keep writing them down; you’ll be amazed at how one thought triggers the next. Words will start to flow onto your paper or computer screen.

Now let me explain why I asked you to do this exercise. First, you’ve probably been putting off more things than you realized. That’s the first step toward defeating procrastination-recognizing it as a problem. Procrastinators go to ridiculous extremes to explain their inability to take action. Accepting the truth that procrastination is a problem is the first step toward overcoming it.

Second, I hope this exercise has taught you the importance of getting started. The failure to take action breeds doubt, doubt gnaws at your self-confidence and your diminished self-confidence increases your indecision. The result is paralysis-and the vicious circle of inactivity keeps turning. After you recognize that procrastination is a problem, the next step is to focus on one thing you’ve been postponing. Take one thing you’ve been putting off and make something happen. You started your list with one thing; it led to another. Take one action and that action will trigger another.

Ask yourself how much time you waste in a day. Keep a log of how you spend your time. How do you plan your work to ensure that deadlines are met? Always ask yourself if the work needs to be done at all. According to research findings, we spend as much as 80% of our time on tasks that do not contribute to the success of our projects-many people load themselves down with work that is unnecessary, or that could be justifiably postponed. Learn what all successful people know: If you’re failing to plan, you’re planning to fail.
